As you can imagine, we have a wide selection of knitting needles and crochet hooks here in the studio. In the throws of the designs process we often grab a hook or a needle and work our ideas through with a ball of yarn.
Jullie kunnen je vast wel voorstellen dat we een uitgebreide selectie brei- en haaknaalden in onze studio hebben. Tijdens het ontwerpproces nemen we vaak snel een haak- of breinaald om een nieuw idee met een bolletje garen uit te proberen.
Last year I was given a single Etimo Rose crochet hook at a trade show to try out by Tulip (the manufacturers themselves). I happily took it, but wondered if a simple hook could be everything the hype about them claims and were they really worthy of the price tag? We all have our own ways of crocheting, we all have our little unique crochet holds and we vary between left and right handed. I'd been working up to this point with a soft grip hook from an alternative brand which I was reasonably happy with, but lulled in by the pretty pink handle I gave the Etimo a go.
Toen ik vorig jaar op een beurs was, kreeg ik een Etimo Rose haaknaald van Tulip, de producent van deze naalden, om uit te proberen. Ik nam hem dankbaar in ontvangst, maar vroeg me oprecht af of deze eenvoudige haaknaald de hype die errond bestaat en het bijhorende prijskaartje waard was.
Iedereen heeft een andere manier van haken, we houden onze haaknaald op onze eigen specifieke manier vast, en we haken of rechts- of linkshandig.
Tot die dag haakte ik meestal met een softgrip haaknaald van een ander merk, waar ik best tevreden over was. Maar het leuke rose handvat van de Etimo gaf de doorslag om deze nieuwe haaknaald te proberen.
It soon became my go to hook. I crochet a lot, and from time to time I suffer with cramps and stiffness in my hands. What I found I liked the most was the little thumb 'nub', a little mound on the handle that allows you to push your thumb against it, which for me really makes all the difference. It means my thumb can take over some of the work of holding the hook and my hands & fingers do not have to grip quite so hard. As I only had a single Etimo hook, it made the difference so much more noticeable when I had to return to my old hooks when a different size was needed. Unlike many soft grip hooks, the metal part of the Etimo hook goes down the entire handle, therefore creating a very balanced hook. The tip of the hook is smoothly rounded and the handle has a cushioned support which I find perfectly contoured for my hand to be able to relax when holding it. Finally, the shaft of the hooks are coated with a special material that allows the yarn to glide and the shaft itself is a long enough length to accommodate more complicated stitches.
Al snel werd het mijn vaste favoriete haaknaald.
Ik haak veel, en af en toe heb ik last van stijfheid en kramp in mijn handen. Ik was vooral blij met het ‚verhoogde duimstukje’ aan de naald, een kleine verdikking aan het handvat waar je je duim tegen kan duwen, en dit maakte voor mij een groot verschil. Het betekent dat mijn duim een deel van het werk kan overnemen, om de haaknaald vast te houden, zodat mijn handen en vingers een zachtere grip op de naald hebben.
Omdat ik maar 1 Etimo haaknaald had, merkte ik een opvallend verschil, want telkens ik een andere maat haaknaald nodig had, moest ik teruggrijpen naar mijn oudere haaknaalden.
In tegenstelling tot veel andere soft grip haaknaalden, loopt het metalen deel van de Etimo naalden verder door het ganse handvat, en zo verkrijg je een heel stabiele haaknaald.
De tip van de naald is glad afgerond en het handvat heeft een zachte ondersteuning waardoor ik de naald ontspannen in mijn hand hou.
Het metalen halsdeel heeft een speciale coating waardoor het garen over de naald glijdt, en de lengte is ook ideaal om de moeilijkere steken perfect mee uit te voeren.
We had many brands and styles of hooks in the studio, but unfortunately at the time, not Etimo.
In onze studio hebben we altijd al veel verschillende merken en stijlen haaknaalden gehad, maar nooit Etimo.
I must have raved about my Etimo hook enough for people to notice as last christmas a good friend gifted me the Gold set. 'A whole set, all to myself,' I thought! Then I took them into the studio and one by one they were being 'borrowed'.
Mijn enthousiasme over mijn Etimo haaknaald moet opvallend geweest zijn, want tot mijn verrassing kreeg ik met Kerst de Gouden Etimo set van een goede vriend. ‚Een hele set, helemaal voor mij’, dacht ik blij bij mezelf ! Ik nam mijn set mee naar de studio, en merkte al snel dat mijn haaknaalden één na één werden ‚geleend’.
Last week, I was thrilled to walk into the studio and find a set of the Rose Etimo hooks sitting on my desk, my heart literally skipped a beat at the sight of the cute pink carry case. I was even happier to learn they will now become a regular addition to the studio. For me, the Etimo hooks by Tulip are the 'crème de la crème' of crochet hooks and more than worth the price tag. Using Etimo hooks means I can crochet for longer and faster, and fewer yarns are 'troublesome' on the hook.
Toen ik vorige week in de studio aankwam, was ik ongelofelijk blij om een set ‚Rose Etimo’ haaknaalden op mijn bureau te vinden. Mijn hart sloeg een slag over toen ik dat mooie rose etui zag. En toen ik vernam dat deze haaknaalden een vaste aanwinst voor de studio zullen worden, werd ik zo mogelijk nog enthousiaster.
Voor mij is er geen twijfel mogelijk : de Etimo haaknaalden van Tulip zijn echt ‚de crème de la crème’ wat alle haaknaalden betreft, en ze zijn hun prijs meer dan waard.
Haken met Etimo haaknaalden betekent dat ik langer en sneller kan haken, en dat ook moeilijkere garens prettig worden om mee te werken.
