Making eco conscious choices and choosing natural or vegan alternatives to everyday household products have been a part of my life and values for many years. Although such lifestyle choices are increasingly trendy and mainstream nowadays, for me personally, this decision was never about sticking to trends; this journey started out through a genuine and sincere interest in simply making healthier choices for myself and the planet! Plus, not only are homemade cleaning products cheaper in the long run than equivalent commercial products, making them yourself cuts down on plastic waste in a big way too.
Het kiezen voor milieuvriendelijke opties zoals natuurlijke of veganistisch alternatieven voor dagelijkse schoonmaakproducten is al jaren erg belangrijk voor me. Hoewel deze levenswijze steeds normaler en zelfs hip wordt, heb ik deze keuze nooit gemaakt om met de mode mee te gaan. Dit avontuur begon door een oprechte interesse in het simpelweg maken van gezondere keuzes voor mijzelf en de planeet! Daarnaast zijn zelfgemaakte schoonmaakmiddelen op de lange termijn niet alleen goedkoper dan kant-en-klare producten, ze zorgen ervoor dat je veel minder plastic gebruikt.

Laten we beginnen bij het begin met een paar simpele en betaalbare alternatieven voor schoonmaakmiddelen: natuurlijk en zelfgemaakt zonder obscure ingrediënten. Ik denk dat kleine veranderingen in het dagelijks leven uiteindelijk een groot effect hebben!
Toilet Cleaner
180g baking soda
185ml white vinegar
10 drops of tea tree oil
10 drops of lavender essential oil
Four words: baking soda, white vinegar! You’ll notice that these are staple ingredients for many straightforward homemade cleaning products. The baking soda works to remove the limescale and stains, and the vinegar disinfects as well as deodorises. The tea tree oil is an additional natural antiseptic and deodorant, working together with the lavender oil to leave your loo squeaky clean and smelling fabulous. This formula also works well on bathroom tiles! Or remove the oils from the formula and you’re left with an effective drain cleaner, too.
Toiletreiniger
180 gr baking soda (zuiveringszout/natriumbicarbonaat)
185 ml azijn
10 druppels tea tree olie
10 druppels essentiële olie lavendel
Drie woorden: baking soda, azijn! Je zult erachter komen dat dit de basis ingrediënten zijn voor vele zelfgemaakte schoonmaakmiddelen. De baking soda verwijdert kalkaanslag en vlekken en de azijn desinfecteert en verwijdert nare geurtjes. De tea tree olie is een natuurlijk desinfectiemiddel dat fris ruikt en samen met de lavendelolie zorgt dit voor een brandschoon toilet dat heerlijk ruikt. Deze formule werkt ook goed op badkamertegels! Of gebruik het zonder de oliën en je hebt een effectieve gootsteenontstopper.
Multi-Purpose Cleaner
185ml white vinegar
1 tbsp baking soda
1 litre hot water (just off the boil)
Juice from ½ lemon
Lemony fresh! Whip this one up in next to no time and fill up an old spray bottle with it for day-to-day use. Use hot water when making a batch so the soda dissolves well, then allow it to cool off before transferring it to a bottle. The added lemon contributes both a lovely citrus scent and naturally antibacterial properties, making this an ideal formula for cleaning kitchen and bathroom surfaces, furniture, and all the rest, disinfecting and freshening all in one go.
Allesreiniger
185 ml azijn
1 eetlepel baking soda (zuiveringszout/natriumbicarbonaat)
1 liter heet water (net van de kook af)
Sap van ½ citroen
Citroentjesfris! Meng de ingrediënten in een handomdraai door elkaar en vul er een oude sprayfles mee voor dagelijks gebruik. Gebruik heet water zodat de baking soda oplost en laat het goed afkoelen voordat je het in een fles giet. De citroen zorgt voor een heerlijke citrusgeur en heeft een natuurlijke antibacteriële werking, waardoor dit de perfecte formule is voor het schoonmaken van de keuken, badkamer, meubels en de rest. Desinfecteren en opfrissen in één keer, wat wil je nog meer!?
Mirror and Glass Cleaner
60ml white vinegar
60ml rubbing alcohol
1 tbsp cornflour (starch)
500ml water
8-10 drops essential oil of choice (optional)
You may be thinking: Huh? Cornflour? On my windows? Well, there’s a good reason why it’s included in this particular formula – to reduce streaking! This one is another that can be made in advance of use to fill up an old spray bottle with and to keep handy for when you need it. Make sure to give it a good shake before use, then simply spray onto your chosen surface and wipe with a clean microfibre cloth for the best results.
Spiegel- en glasreiniger
60 ml azijn
60 ml alcohol
1 eetlepel maïzena (zetmeel)
500 ml water
8-10 druppels essentiële olie in geur naar keuze (optioneel)
Je zult je misschien afvragen: Huh? Maïzena? Op mijn ramen? Nou, er is een goede reden waarom dat in deze formule zit – om strepen te verminderen! Dit is ook een schoonmaakmiddel dat je van tevoren kunt maken en waarmee je een oude sprayfles kunt vullen om altijd klaar te hebben staan voor gebruik. Schud voor het schoonmaken de fles goed, spray het op het oppervlak en veeg voor het beste resultaat weg met een schoon microvezel doekje.
